OVERVIEW
Sremska Mitrovica municipality occupies the central position in the Srem district and it also represents the administrative centre of the district.

POPULATION
Sremska Mitrovica municipality encompasses 24 settlements and the town of Sremska Mitrovica and its population is 88,745 citizens.

Economic structure basis of the town and municipality is made up of primary agricultural production, agricultural-food processing and metal processing complex. Farming and industrial cultures, vegetables, fruit, and fodder are all grown on dark fertile Srem soil which stretches across more than 50 thousand hectares. High yield of certain cultures puts farmers from the biggest Srem municipality at the very top of the list.
2,633 legal entities, craftsmanship shops as well as companies, are registered in the municipality.  

TOURISM
During the time of the Roman Empire, the location of the present day’s biggest Srem town was the seat of the ancient capital Sirmium from which a vast area was run, stretching from present day’s Budapest all the way to the Greek island of Crete. It was one of the largest cities of the ancient world, and numerous and extremely valuable monuments remain from that period.
The river Sava enhances the pleasant atmosphere.
